The Lessig piece is right on. I wonder, though, if the right is wise enough to recognize its own self-interest. It's one thing to denounce the bank and auto bailouts, and another to address the underlying cause of those bailouts: the corporate financing of elections.

From the standpoint of the right, isn't restraining big business "socialism"?

I have discussed the Lessig piece and the challenge it poses for the right more fully at the Innocent Smith Journal:

About your design, which template have you installed on this blog? I would like to know if it's custom or not."

In case anyone was wondering, the song they played is an old Quaker tune. Here are the lyrics:

Tis a gift to be simple, tis a gift to be free,
Tis a gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves, in a place just right
We will be in the valley of love and delight

When true simplicity is gained
To bow and to bend, we shan't be ashamed
To turn, turn will be our delight
And by turning, turning we come 'round right.

Very appropriate song choice.

Great event! It went really well and hopefully everyone there got a better understanding of the issues facing the new Democratic majority in the State Senate.

That map was really strange. I can't imagine how painful that must have been for Mr. Sullivan to find that even people he knew well would contribute to a cause that was so fiercely against his lifestyle. This seems so counter to what people like Harvey Milk suggested when he said that if someone knows a gay person and interacts with them on a somewhat regular basis, they will be more likely to support gay rights. Maybe this hypothesis can't work for all people, but nonetheless, it leaves some questions.

Any one defending "curiosity" as a reason to go see Hitler, would lose my vote of confidence. Only Hitler was far more charming, intelligent, and educated than Coulter.
She is pathetic. And anyone who would pay to see her, see her for free, or take money to look at her, is severely uninformed and critically weak minded.
But most bigots wind up together by just such chance happenstances. She has an audience, because people feel comfortable hating, and want to coalesce with others who loathe themselves as well.
Read. Read to satisfy your curiosity. Think, use your curiosity, but curiosity as a reason to go see an idiot? That is just stupid.
She has books, if you are intrigued, go to the library, read them for free, and if you are still curious, then you are a bigot. Pretty simple, really.
And thanks Pat. Better to be high horse, than lowbred.

Thank God Bush decided to bail out the auto industry. It would have been a very unpleasant trip back to the mid-west this Christmas. I can't believe the government couldn't give them more...
